It is uncommon knowledge that some sections of the historical and legendary Nürburgring are public roads. Yup, your average, everyday German gets to drive on the track—but not at track speeds. Driving the Nürburgring is fun—a hoot, even—but nothing compares to being driven around the track by a professional. If the track is a bit daunting, give the keys to Jaguar and its 2017 F-Type SVR.
A new program allows people to pay to be taken around the 12.93-mile track by a professional driver. What is better than being rocketed around in the super coupe? The F-Type SVR is powered by a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 making 567 horsepower. That is more performance than you or I can ever really handle, especially given the track’s unpredictability.
“The weather at the Nürburgring is famed for being unpredictable, and the new Jaguar F-Type SVR is the perfect car to tackle the undulating track in variable conditions,” said Mark Stanton, head of Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations.
This is not some leisurely experience. Riders will be fitted with a racing suit, helmet, and HANS device. The F-Type SVR is fitted with a roll cage, Recaro Racing seats, and harnesses. The all-wheel-drive Jag may be able to handle what the track can throw at it, but safety is a top priority.
So how much does this experience cost? $1,000? $500? Nope, currently it is about $330 at current exchange rates. But you will have to act fast as Jaguar will only be running the program through the end of October.
